As a Child I was exposed to myriad of different vehicles. My dad owned a 96 F150, 2004 Ram 1500 Hemi, 2008 XJ Vanden Plas, 2010 BMW 325i, 2012 Jetta TDI, 1971 Mercury Marquis and more.
At 15, I was offered the option to finally purchase my first car. The two options I had in my mind was a Fox Body or a 2nd gen Camaro. My dad was offering me a free Geo Metro at the time so I quickly looked into one of those options.
I ended up picking up a Junkyard spec ‘79 Z28 I was eyeing. Good ol’ 350 and a 700R4. It was previously used as a paint ball fort and the gas tank had sugar packets inside. I picked it up for 750$.
This was the car I drove to High School after a paint job and minor engine refurbishing to get it running. I broke down before and after school quite often, and this is when I knew I wouldn’t mind cranking a wrench to get it running again. Oh, also my dad’s ‘71 Marquis.
When the Camaro was down, most of the time, I drove around my Dad’s 2000 Discovery 4WD.
I graduated high school at 17 and it was time that I rewarded myself. My parents were very generous and provided me with 2000$ for a down payment on a new car.
Heavily influenced by the Discovery, I had a crazy idea of lifting a closed bed truck. The Chrysler Aspen was out of the picture because it just looked terrible. So I looked into the Cadillac Escalade or the Lincoln Navigator. At this point I didn’t know much about the LS but I got suggestions to lean towards the Escalade. So after further research, I came to the conclusion to pick up an Escalade.
When I went to Houston to pick up the 2004 Escalade ESV (AWD LQ9), I announced that I was planning on lifting it and putting an all-terrain or mud tire set up on some bad ass wheels. That’s what I did after a year.
After the BDS 6.5" Lift, Fox 2.0's all the way around, 20" XD Thumps, M/T Baja MTZs, N-Fab replacement bumper, Texas Speed LTs, Blackbear Performance Tune, and a Stage 3 Mad Dog 4l60e shit trans it was all great and nice. I also Daily’d a GMT400 and flipped it later.
I totaled her. A 73 year old woman failed to yield an intersection and I plowed her hard. Totaled my Escalade by Airbags and a Bent Frame.
Saddened, I picked up a 2000 Volkswagen Golf 1.8t with a 5 speed, and drove it as a daily.
Also at the time, my father and I picked up a 1952 Fleetwood Series 60 for 1250$,
and a 1971 Mercy D220.
Oh yeah, and this shit box 5.4 RWD Excursion.
As my mind was weakening because of my loss of my Lifted Escalade. I finally was financially stable and I picked up a 2007.5 Escalade ESV. Of course, I would settle for less so I got the AWD Model. This was the fastest vehicle I’ve ever owned. This thing was balls quick for me. What an upgrade it was. I’ve hit 146mph, and still the fastest I’ve ever gone in a road vehicle.
So much has been left out for another time. I will compose a post about it later. I went through so much with this truck. It was literally everything I cared about for a long time.
I even made a Forza Horizon clone.
My fascination with wheeling and mudding grew, So I kept pushing it to its limits. I towed others with it. I’ve pulled out a 3500 Cummins, a totaled Ram Runner, and a lot of other vehicles from the mud.
I went to our annual summer Galveston trip where we would wheel and jump our trucks, and we went back to the beach to enjoy the rest of our day. On that fateful day, I hydrolocked the almighty L92. Saddened, I totaled it out.
Blackbear Tuned, Injen Cold Air Full exposed, and Texas Speed LTs were equipped on her. I couldn’t afford a lift and wheels because at the time I had family issues so I moved out of my Parent’s house.
Continuing, I needed another vehicle to fulfill the bare minimal jobs my Escalades performed. So I picked up a 1986 C20. Carb’d 350 and 1WD. By the receipts, the 350 had 1000 Miles on it and the Trans was rebuilt.
A month later, I threw a rod. Worst Summer ever. I managed to break two vehicles extensively. I gave up and I had a V6 Dodge Journey rental for the time being.
Since I was still living on my own, I later realized by my bank account being empty/negative, I did not have GAP Insurance on the 2nd Escalade. So then I was railed. I was living bare minimal and selling parts I’ve never imagined I had to sell. I could barely afford basic living necessities.
My Parent’s finally snapped out of their hatred of me moving out and they said they’d help me finance for a brand new vehicle. The stipulations were: Fuel Efficient, Brand New, and not over 25000$. I agreed because I was getting the business by life.
So I looked into a ‘15 Impreza Wagon NA, or a Sportwagen TDI. So you guessed it, I ended up picking up a Golf Sportwagen TDI in a 6 Speed Standard.
I was excited because it would finally give me a chance to “learn from the start,” Because I’ve never started out with a beginners vehicle (per say).
It was all great, I put light reversible mods, to keep me satisfied while I had an economy vehicle. It just never felt real to me that I was paying monthly for a Golf.
After about 7-8 Months of owning it, I lusted for more power. I lusted for noise, and more torque. I was finally tired of owning a slow car. I wanted another Escalade. 3-4 Months later, after the discovery of the Diesel Gate Scandal from Volkswagen, I figured this will be my exit so I can go back to being a GM Fan Boy. So Now I wait, and maybe finish LS Swapping my Camaro, which I will post about later.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
